Our WEST INDIES BAY LEAVES (Pimenta Racemosa) are naturally and organically grown in South West Florida. Untreated by synthetic fertilizers, chemicals or pesticides. Not manufactured, altered or processed. Hand picked directly from the tree, pre-washed carefully and air dried so you can start your project right away.

The Pimenta Racemosa is an evergreen, slow growing hard wood tree. The fruit, bark and leaves produce exceptional flavor when crushed or torn, highly spiced with aromatic notes of cinnamon, clove, allspice, nutmeg, vanilla and cardamom.

Traditionally used for oil infusions and cooking spice. When crushed, produces different physical characteristics and compositions. Immersed in glycerin or witch hazel nurtures a palette of toasted warm colors of ginger-gold, plum, nutmeg, passionate red and chestnut that contribute to natural pigments in soap making, skin care, perfumes, and more.

Also available are LEMON BAY RUM LEAVES (pimento racemose) Beautiful lemon scent, super aromatic, often used to make hydrosols using an Alembic distiller and can be mixed with other herbs such as oregano, thyme, rosemary, rose and almost any recipe you will ever want to make due to its natural citrus flavor which works all the time. Infuse for shampoo, sugar scrub, liquid soap, bath bombs, body butter and lotion, perfume, cologne and so much more. The Lemon Bay Rum can be used to make iced or hot tea with honey.

A lighter aroma and contrast may occur when infused in carrier oils such as Avocado, Olive, Grapeseed and other liquid oils that contain nutty or woody aromas which may also alter the distinct flavor of the Bay Leaves. If you are looking for the reddish color when infusing West Indies Bay Rum, you may not find this when infused with oil due to the thickness of the oil. Fractioned Coconut, Jojoba, Safflower, Sweet Almond, Glycerin, Witch Hazel and even Rum have proven to be very accommodating. When choosing a carrier oil or steeping liquid take note to the shelf life for longer lasting results. Understanding your recipe will guide you in the reasoning of the use of Bay Rum leaves.

The Pimenta Racemosa infusion can be added to recipes such as hot process soap after the cook, handmade liquid and solid shampoo, perfumes, after shave, cologne, essential oil, salves, balms, massage oil, and cosmetic applications. Hydrosols and toners benefit from the flavors especially when crushed and placed inside the Alembic Distiller.

West Indies Bay (Pimenta Racemosa) blends well with essential oils of cedarwood, eucalyptus, geranium, ginger, juniper, lavender, and citrus oils, rosemary, thyme and ylang ylang.

Lemon Bay Rum (Pimenta Racemosa) blends well with eucalyptus, peppermint, tea tree and citrus oils including sweet orange grapefruit, herbaceous aromas, cardamom, ginger, rose, frankincense and so much more.

Directions: Lightly crush dried leaves, add to a canning jar with sealing lids, add carrier oil or steeping liquid to cover leaves filling up to the brim of the jar. Place jar in a warm, dark location preferably a temperature-controlled box set to 100 F. as little as 6 weeks to 6 months or more turning the jar every now and then. The longer the infusion matures, the stronger and more potent the flavor and medicinal qualities. Do not infuse fresh cut leaves.

Safety: Avoid during pregnancy. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid contact with eyes, wash hands after touching leaf extract. Can cause reactions of hypersensitivity.
